2 HOURS LESSON

Preparation (15 minutes)

Before you even hit the water, a great surfing lesson starts with some important groundwork. Here’s what you can expect:
  1. Safety Briefing:
Your instructor will begin by emphasizing the importance of safety. They’ll teach you about the surfboard, the waves, and the basic rules of surfing etiquette to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.
  1. Gear Selection:
You’ll be provided with all the necessary gear – a surfboard, wetsuit, and leash. Your instructor will help you select the right size board and wetsuit for your height and skill level.
  1. Warm-Up:
A brief warm-up exercise helps prepare your body for the physical demands of surfing. Stretching and basic movements like jumping jacks or lunges will get your blood flowing.

Beach Instruction (30 minutes)

Now that you’re geared up and warmed up, it’s time to hit the sand. During this beach instruction phase, you’ll learn the fundamentals of surfing:
  1. Paddling Techniques:
Your instructor will show you how to paddle efficiently, a crucial skill for getting out to the waves and catching them.
  1. Board Handling:
You’ll practice carrying and maneuvering the surfboard on land, getting a feel for its size and weight.
  1. Pop-Up and Stance:
This is where the magic happens. You’ll learn how to “pop up” from lying on the board to standing up. Your instructor will guide you on finding the right stance – feet shoulder-width apart, knees bent, and weight centered.
  1. Reading the Waves:
Understanding wave formation and patterns is key to surfing. Your instructor will teach you how to spot the best waves to ride.

In-Water Training (1 hour)

Now it’s time to venture into the ocean. This is where the real thrill begins:
  1. Paddle Out:
You’ll practice paddling through the waves, getting used to the feeling of being in the open water with your board.
  1. Catch Some Waves:
With your instructor’s guidance, you’ll attempt to catch your first waves. This can be challenging, but it’s also incredibly rewarding.
  1. Wave Timing:
Timing is everything in surfing. You’ll work on gauging when to start paddling to match the speed of an approaching wave.
  1. Balancing Act:
Maintaining your balance on the board while riding a wave is an acquired skill. You’ll continue to work on your stance and stability.

Feedback and Practice (15 minutes)

After your initial attempts, you’ll regroup on the beach for some feedback from your instructor. They’ll provide tips on what you did well and where you can improve.
